The Huiana Student Internship Program focuses on Hawaii Island youth as the labor force of the future. With the strategy to develop the workplace skills of our island high school students, the internship program places high school students in 60-hour applied learning internships that are tied to their career pathway interests. By connecting school-based learning with work-based learning, the program: helps students hone in on career interests, teaches job readiness and workplace excellence skills, enables students to reflect on and develop their work ethic, and fosters relevance in education.
